Police seek ‘porch pirate’

Fairfax County police detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect who stole packages delivered to homes in Annandale and Springfield.
On June 17, at 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the 6300 block of Alberta Street in Springfield for a theft report. The victim said someone stole a package containing electronics that had been delivered to their front door. The suspect fled on an electric scooter.
Later that day, at 3:37 p.m., officers responded to the 3900 block of Shelley Lane in Annandale for a similar report. A package containing electronics was stolen by a suspect who fled on an electric scooter.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division believe the same individual is responsible for both thefts.

The FCPD offers the following tips to prevent package thefts:
- Have packages delivered to a secure location, such as your workplace or a trusted neighbor.
- Use package lockers or in-store pickup options when available.
- Install a video doorbell or security camera.
- Sign up for delivery alerts and retrieve packages promptly.
- Request a signature for delivery, especially for valuable items.
- If you’re going out of town, place delivery holds or ask someone to collect your packages.
