Police seize 80+ cats from home of cat hoarder

A cat at the animal shelter rescued from a cat hoarder’s house in Falls Church.

Police officers from the animal protection unit removed more than 80 cats from a home in the 7200 block of Westmoreland Road in Falls Church on Sept. 17. The home is owned by a 52-year-old man, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Cats boxed up and ready to be transported to the animal shelter.

Officers discovered dozens of cats, including newborn kittens, exhibiting varying signs and symptoms of illness. Eighty-two cats were removed from the home, transported to the animal shelter and treated by a local veterinarian. Officers also found five deceased cats inside and collected their remains.

An investigation began after animal protection officers received a tip from an inspector with the Department of Code Compliance.

In 2010, there was a cat hoarding incident case that involved about 180 cats in Annandale.

  1. Our cat, Bo, has been missing for months and we are wondering if maybe this person took him in? He is a very large black and white short-haired cat with black markings under his nose that looks like a mustache.

  2. This is terrible. I hope the cats all find good homes and that this man gets the help he has obviously needed for a long time.

  3. Will pictures of the cats be posted anywhere? I've been missing a cat too although it's probably been too long now to find him.

    1. tconn, I would contact the Fairfax County shelter directly. Even better if you pop over there and talk to them in person. They are on West Ox Road near Fair Oaks if you're not familiar. And – you are not the only person who has reported that they are also missing a cat or cats and live near to the address where these cats were seized. šŸ™
