Fairfax County needs people to work as election officers on Election Day, Nov. 6, particularly in certain areas, including Annandale and Falls Church.
Bilingual people who speak Korean or Vietnamese are also needed for those area.
To apply, you must be registered to vote in Virginia and can’t be an elected official or an employee of an elected official. It’s helpful to have good communication skills, patience, be detail oriented, and enjoy working with people.
Election officers must be available to work on Nov. 6 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. The job includes setting up voting equipment, checking photo IDs, checking names on the electronic poll book, helping voters use the voting machines, and tabulating the results after the polls close at 7 p.m.
Poll workers are paid $175 for the day. An assistant chief election officer is paid $225, and a chief election officer is paid $250. Poll workers must attend a three-hour training session before Election Day.
Whenever possible, poll workers are assigned to their home precinct, but if there are no vacancies at that polling place they could be assigned to a nearby precinct or asked to work in the central absentee precinct at the Fairfax County Government Center.
