The Virginia Department of Transportation invites the public to a virtual meeting Thursday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. on the Braddock Road Multimodal Improvements Project.
VDOT will present alternative concepts and seek feedback on proposals for three intersections: Rolling Road, Wakefield Chapel Road/Danbury Forest Drive, and Burke Lake Road.

The project is aimed at improving safety, mobility, and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists on the Braddock Road corridor between Ravensworth Road in Annandale and Humphries Drive in Burke.
It also includes the eastbound and westbound Braddock Road ramps to the southbound beltway (outer loop) and a half-mile of Ravensworth Road between Braddock Road and Heritage Drive.

In addition to the intersection paths, the project calls for new and upgraded shared-use paths along both sides of Braddock Road and a pedestrian overpass just west of Burke Lake Road.
Phase 1 (Southampton Drive to Ravensworth Road) is fully funded, and Phase 2 (Humphries Drive to Southampton Drive) is partially funded. The project is financed with a mix of federal, state, and local funds, including about $73.8 million from Virginia’s Smart Scale program.
According to a tentative schedule, there will be a second public meeting in fall 2022 and a public hearing on the proposed design in winter 2022/23. The final design is expected to be approved in spring 2023.
Comments can be submitted through Feb. 24 via the comment form on the project website or by email to [email protected].
