Public invited to Bowling for Baldness event in Annandale

The public is invited to take part in Bowling for Baldness, a fun family event and fundraiser hosted by the Capital Area Alopecia Areata Group, next Saturday, March 5, 2:30-4:30 p.m., at the AMF Annandale Lanes, 4245 Markham St. 

Register online. If you would like to bowl with a group, specify a team name and register by March 1. Each year the event has sold out, so don’t delay. It’s $20 per person, which includes two hours of bowling and shoe rental.

The alopecia group is also holding an online auction through May 10. Items include restaurant gift cards, a private VIP tour for 12 at Port City Brewery, private tastings at Virginia wineries, a week of camp at Congressional Camp, classes at Barre Tech in Del Ray, passes to Flight Trampoline Park in Springfield, golf foursomes at 1757 and Reston National, tickets to the San Francisco Symphony at the Kennedy Center, private running coaching sessions with world record holder Michael Wardian, a hockey puck signed by Evgeny Kuznetsov, of the Washington Capitals, and more.

The third annual Bowling for Baldness event and auction are aimed at educating the public about Alopecia Areata and raising funds for research. All proceeds go to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. Last year’s event raised $34,000.

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disease affecting 6.5 million Americans, resulting in the loss of hair from the head and body. There is no cure, and there are no treatments approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Alopecia Areata is highly unpredictable and cyclical. Hair can grow back or fall out at any time, resulting in a profound impact on one’s life.
