Public invited to a dialogue on ‘Race Unity in America’

The public is invited to a discussion on “Race Unity in America,” with two upcoming sessions at the George Mason Regional Library in Annandale.

The discussions are presented by Baha’is of Fairfax County in collaboration with the Catholic church but the objective is community building, not promoting religion, says Cynthia McDaniel. Hadeh Sabet, a neurologist, will facilitate the discussion.

The upcoming sessions are Oct. 8, 2:30-5 p.m. and Nov. 5, 2:30-5 p.m., at the George Mason Regional Library. Additional sessions will take place in December and January at the Charles E. Beatley Jr. Library in Alexandria.

The meetings will offer a dialogue on how people can see one another as being part of one human family instead of “the other.” Music, poetry, scripture, and writings from leaders of thought and prayer will be shared in an atmosphere designed to elicit positive thoughts and energy for the well-being of the community, the country, and the world.

Participants at previous sessions on racial unity talked about the difference between racism and prejudice, building individuals’ consciousness to focus on people’s similarities rather than differences, and the idea that everyone is part of the same family.
