The board of directors of the Bangladesh Association of America Inc.
(BAAI) invites the public to a unique “cinematic stage drama” Aug. 19
and 20 at the Ernst Cultural Center at the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

The show, titled “Palki,” is a technologically dependent musical drama fusing
live theater and film, featuring original songs, special effects, projection
mapping, chromatic keying, and watercolor backgrounds.

It will be shown Saturday, Aug. 19 at 5 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 20
at 3 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or at the door. The Ernst Center is at 8333 Little River Turnpike. There
is ample free parking.

“Palki” is in English. One of the goals of BAAI in presenting this show,
the organization says, is “to give Americans, irrespective of their cultural
backgrounds, an opportunity to enjoy a highly entertaining and exciting
multicultural event.”

The drama is about a 16-year-old gifted and charming girl named
Palki, who is preparing for marriage and lives in a village in Bangladesh. The
lives of Palki and her sister are filled with contrasts – happiness and sorrow,
laughter and tears. The show explores the relationships among the siblings and
their mother as the dreams and expectations of Palki evolve in a story embedded
in mystery and surprise.
