Relax at a Sensory Zone at the library

For residents who need a place to decompress, relax, and recharge, the George Mason Regional Library and three other branches offer a Wellness and Sensory Zone twice a month.
Activities could include interactive sensory elements, puzzles and brain games, loose parts and building materials, art and craft supplies, soothing music, and self-care and wellness books. Participants might also get a visit from a therapy dog.

The next sensory zone at the George Mason Library will be on Thursday, Feb. 19, in the meeting room, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Social worker interns from George Mason University facilitate the sessions, says Marina Shafran, FCPL’s supportive services coordinator who focuses on the health and wellness of library patrons.
Registration is optional, but people who sign up in advance will have priority. Walk-ins are welcome as space permits. You don’t need a library card to participate. All library programs are free.
If a customer is interested in taking the sensory experience home, information on borrowing sensory kits is available at the Wellness and Sensory Zone.
Items include a 3D sculpture pin board, fidget spinner, liquid motion bubbler, magnetic board and stylus, spiral glitter wand, tactile bubble pop game, ThermoGrip ball, and Tranquil Turtle nightlight projector.
Is there any more quiet zone at the libraries? That’s what would help me relax!
Yes! There are designated quiet areas at George Mason Library as well as many other libraries.
