Residents show their support for the Constitution at ‘No Kings Day’ protests

While President Trump celebrated his birthday with a military parade in D.C. on June 14, protesters gathered in Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, and Falls Church as part of the nationwide No Kings protests against the overreach of the Trump administration.
Local residents, armed with homemade signs and American flags, expressed anger at the Trump administration’s disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law. But there was also a positive energy in the air as many drivers honked in support.

“This is a very positive day; it’s very joyful,” said an Annandale resident on the pedestrian bridge over the beltway. “We’re getting a lot of positive responses.”
Standing along Braddock Road in front of the Ravensworth Shopping Center, a Burke resident said he joined the protest because “I feel I have to support the Constitution.”

Also on Braddock Road, Rick, a Springfield resident and a veteran who served in the Army for 30 years, said, “I don’t like the idea of the military being used for political purposes.”
A Burke resident holding a sign saying “Our military needs services, not a Trump parade,” said she opposes the Trump administration’s actions to cut funding for programs that help people and “deploy troops where they’re not needed.”

Ben, a 16-year-old from Fairfax, came to the protest because he believes in democracy. “The Trump administration is engaging in unconstitutional behavior,” he said. “Trump is consolidating power under the executive branch and trampling on the rule of law.”
“All the branches of government are co-equal,” said Rita, from West Springfield, who was holding a sign saying “Reunite the United States of America.” She wants members of Congress to “do their part as representatives of our democracy.”

Ruby, a 20-year-old from Arlington, was concerned about immigrants being arrested and deported. Her parents are undocumented and “living in fear.”
“Immigrants don’t come here because want to; they come because they need to,” she said. “My parents are everything to me.” They work outside in the sun and clean houses and bathrooms so they can provide for their family. They are not criminals, yet she worries they will be deported. “I fight for them. I will never stay silent.”
“I’m against lawlessness, with which this administration is approaching everything. I believe in the Constitution,” said Karen, who came from Centreville to stand on the pedestrian bridge in Annandale.
Annabelle, a 14-year-old from Annandale, said, “What the government is doing is wrong and unlawful, especially with immigrants.”

“I work with refugees and immigrants, and I’m a mother, and Trump is targeting all of that,” said Sarah of Fairfax. “It’s so important to be here and protest in a non-violent way.”
Gina of Annandale called the administration’s action to eliminate USAID “unconscionable.” She worried Trump would make protests illegal. “It’s scary.”
Dennis, an Army veteran from Kings Park, said the celebration of the Army’s 250th anniversary should have taken place in Lexington and Concord, where the Army was formed in 1775 to oppose the King of England.
Beautiful!
So many paid agitators…. /s/. Seriously, it wag great to see so many good citizens out there!
No one was paid to protest, they happily did it for FREE!
Bunch of commie pedos with nothing better to do than show their embarrassing physiques in front of a blaspheming woke church.
These are big feelings for Elmo
Then why is Speaker Johnson and Trump refusing to release the Epstein files? What are they hiding? The Dems are all demanding that all the info be released. We know that it’s because Trump did lots of immoral and illegal things. Probably Johnson and lots of other MAGA folks. They keep getting arrested for things like kiddie porn, soliciting minors, rape (don’t forget Trump was convicted of that and bragged about assaulting women). And oh yeah, Trump’s previous spiritual adviser and conservative megachurch pastor pled guilty to child sex abuse.
Now who are the pedophiles and criminals here?! You are a fool.
A king who allows his subjects to protest freely in his kingdom doesn’t seem much like a king to me.
I’d say the king declaration is more hyperbole than fact based.
The folks facing the National Guard rubber bullets in LA would likely disagree with you on both statements. Since the Governor of Virginia called out the National Guard on Thursday before the demonstrations to quell the violence that he imagined might happen, you also might want to pay closer attention.

“Annabelle, a 14-year-old from Annandale, said, “What the government is doing is wrong and unlawful, especially with immigrants.””
Using a quote from a 14-year-old to justify a protest—by highlighting her claim that the action is unlawful, despite immigration enforcement being established law—suggests that the author is pushing a narrative.
If a 14 year old can understand that denying habeas corpus is unlawful, I imagine you can too. You’re obfuscating the point of her statement to push your own narrative.
Ignoring the constitutional right to due process in immigration enforcement *is* unlawful. And if the author is reporting on a protest, the quotes she gets from protestors are likely going to be in service of the protest, don’t you think?
Also 14-year-olds are part of our community too. This young lady is to be commended for showing up when she could have just as easily stayed home and let the “grown ups” in power handle it.

What part of the parade being for the Army’s 250th birthday did you miss? This is what’s wrong in the news media. You start off with misinformation to stir controversy and it discredits the remainder of your story.
We were there on Broad Street in Falls Church. A day of joy and determination to support the US Constitution. Americans defeated authoritarians in 1783, 1865, and 1945. Now we must do it again.
