Reward offered for tips on burglary suspect at Annandale apartments

Fairfax County Crime Solvers is offering a reward of $100 to $1,000 for information to help police catch suspects in a series of burglaries at the Avant Apartments in Annandale.
The burglaries took place in April and May, usually between 8 and 10 a.m. Items taken include coins, cash, and jewelry. The suspect gains entry through the front door without using force.

According to Crime Solvers, “the suspect most likely resides or works in the area and blends into the community well.” He is described as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a goatee and bushy eyebrows.

On May 29, officers observed two men walking in and out of traffic lanes shortly after 11 p.m. at the 7600 block of Little River Turnpike in Annandale. The men attempted to flee when the police came after them. Police caught one suspect, who had discarded narcotics and a weapon.
Mikiyas Girma, 18, of Annandale was arrested and taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a concealed weapon, and possession of marijuana. A petition was obtained for the second suspect, a 16-year-old male from Annandale.
Officers responded to the report of a robbery and assault shortly before midnight on May 28 at the 6000 block of Argyle Drive in the Culmore area of Bailey’s Crossroads.
Police determined the victim had purchased a pizza at a store and began walking when he was approached by several men. The men demanded his pizza and began to assault him. A security guard was able to intervene and assisted the victim, while detaining one of the suspects.
Rocael Romero Mendez, 22, of Falls Church was arrested and taken to the Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with attempted robbery and assault. The other suspects, described as Hispanic, fled on foot. The victim did not require medical attention.
