Road Shark campaign targeted impaired drivers
The Fairfax County Police Department reports success with the 2023 Road Shark campaign to curb dangerous driving behavior.
Road Shark, now ended, is a collaborative effort of FCPD and the Virginia State Police.
During the campaign, officers and state troopers issued nearly 25,000 citations and warnings, including hundreds of arrests for driving while intoxicated and 1,300 citations for reckless driving.

According to the FCPD, Road Shark has contributed to the overall year-to-date reduction in crashes and a year-to-date increase in DWI arrests. There has been a 55 percent decrease in fatal crashes in Fairfax County so far this year compared to the same period in 2022.
The police department also focused on getting impaired drivers off the road during July as part of its Summer Crime Prevention Initiative.
Officers issued a total of 624 traffic charges during July, including 123 for speeding/reckless driving, 38 for DWI, and 23 for violating the law against using hand-held phones.
The department deployed officers from all eight district stations and teamed up with its DWI Enforcement Squad to target impaired driving. Officers were deployed to areas of concern identified by crime analysts.
Hopefully offenders stop! Because you know police won’t pursue fleeing cars unless they personally witness a felony.
Excellent!
Great work!
Continue the efforts to reduce the dangers on our highways.
Wonderful – Great
Less than two hours ago; I finally saw a driver pulled over on route seven; heading west, from the fifty overpass, before reaching Falls Church city. Vehicles are always going way over twenty-five and if you are going twenty-five these vehicles get right up on your rear bumper.
Thank YOU

Good job! So why is it ending? Do we only need good law enforcement on our roads for a few weeks? Why isn’t this a continuous, year-round effort?
Please come to Seminary road in the Skyline area. It’s been used like a race track
Can we get a Parking Shark for my residential neighborhood where 1 house has 6 white vans blocking visibility at corners? Or a Housing Code Shark to enforce codes on 20 people living in a 3 bedroom house? Or a Trash Shark on Americana Drive??? Why do the basics require a special program ?? But woke BS is tax funded?
