School delayed two hours tomorrow

Due to possible icy road and sidewalk conditions overnight from a refreeze, all Fairfax County public schools and school offices will open two hours late tomorrow, Jan. 8 Central offices will open by 10 a.m.

Here’s the status of other school activities:

  • Morning preschool (special education) classes are canceled. 
  • Afternoon preschool classes start on their regular schedule.
  • Full-day preschool (special education) and Family and Early Childhood Education Program/Head Start classes start two hours later than the regular schedule.
  • Morning field trips are canceled.
  • SACC (School-Age Child Care) centers will open at 8 a.m. 
  • Morning transportation for high school academy classes is canceled. Transportation for afternoon academy classes will be provided.
  • Adult High School and GED classes start two hours late.
  • Community education classes will start on time.
  • Conditions will be reassessed early tomorrow morning to determine if the operating status will be changed.

    1. The FEDS closed their offices at 1PM and made pandemonium of traffic during the height of the storm. No one around here really gets it.

    2. Federal gov't "closing" is laughable. Many if not all agencies have telework policies in place. Employees telework a day or two a week (a nice perk not to have to commute) but it is also for continuity of government during weather events and larger disasters. But when they close, many agencies don't require employees to go home and telework. It is a complete joke.

    3. The Trump administration changed that, but did not require it yesterday. He is trying to get on the good side of Federal Employees after what he did to us last January. Typically if one has telecommuting abilities – govt issued equipment etc, they are required to work at home if the govt closes.

    4. @108, right! I left work at 1, so I could get my kid from school that closed early. I got there 2.5 hrs later. My wife left work in DC at the normal time and got home in 30 min, beat commute she’s ever had.
