Schools, government offices closed today

In response to an expected snowstorm, schools are closed and all school activities are canceled for Monday, Jan. 6, Fairfax County Public Schools announced.

Team practices, games, after-school programs, and Adult and Community Education classes are canceled on Jan. 6. School Age Child Care centers and FCPS administrative offices are closed.

Employees designated as essential personnel should follow directions from their supervisor. Emergency administrative leave is authorized for all other personnel.

Fairfax County government offices, libraries, and courts – including the Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court – are closed today.

All Park Authority facilities are also closed. Classes at rec centers are canceled.

Fairfax Connector is operating on a Sunday schedule today, with inclement weather detours. Metro is operating a modified bus schedule.

On Monday, Fastran will only transport people for dialysis, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments.

County trash and recycling collections are suspended today.

Federal government offices are closed, but teleworkers are expected to work.
