Shots fired into vehicles in Bailey’s Xroads

This is the area where vehicles were shot. [Google Maps]

Someone fired shots into two e vehicles in the 3500 block of S. Jefferson Street in Bailey’s Crossroads at about 11 a.m. on Sept. 23, the Fairfax County Police Department tweeted.

Route 7 in that area was closed while officers investigated the incident. The police department urged people to avoid the area and shelter in place if nearby.

The vehicles were unoccupied. No rounds were fired since the initial three rounds, said Lt. Daniel Spital. There’s no evidence to suggest anyone was specifically targeted, although the investigation is still underway.

Police initially believed the gunshots came from a high-power rifle from one of the higher levels in a highrise at 5601 Seminary Road, but forensic analysis later determined they were from a handgun at ground level.

  1. I want to hear more from those commenters predicting an explosion of violent crime if mass transit arrives within the next century to Mason District.

Especially the commenter who just yesterday claimed without evidence that shootings happen “all the time” at Tyson’s corner.

Is any commenter confident that if FCPD is able to identify the shooter, that the shooter will be convicted of a felony and serve at least six months in jail?

Or, are you more confident the citizens of Mason District will just need to adapt and get used to these random shootings taking place monthly or more often in Mason District, because of the voters’ decision to elect Supervisors and Prosecutors who are more focused on social justice, diversity, equity, and criminal justice reform, than safe streets?

I don’t know about you, but I’m confident the FCPD will spare no resources until the shooter or shooters are identified and arrested; and Steve Descano will personally prosecute the shooter or shooters to the full extent of the law and ensure they feel the full brunt of the “Progressive Justice” and the “reforms” that Descano has established which he claims “will keep us safe and ensure justice for all.”

    1. I just want to know what mass transit (type), where would it come from and go to, and who is going to pay for it? Oh, that’s right – we are car dependent by neighborhood design. Only way that transit is coming is when the high price single family homes on Lake Barcroff are Rezoned for development into condos, retail, a few working class as well as section 8 housing on the lake. Then we will have those other problems, right?

  2. Another BoS success story; cars riddled w gunfire!

It’s time for leadership change that would address its constituents concerns: too much crime, lack of police protecting us and ticketing speeders and reckless drivers on our local roads that are putting pedestrians, bikers, safe drivers and homeowners properties at risk, lack of traffic calming that is needed; poor performing and overcrowded schools; concentrated areas of urban bight; illegal immigrants overflowing into rental single family houses in our neighborhoods and section 8 housing slumming sections of Baileys and 7 Corners; lack of middle class housing and mixed use tax revenue developments in open lots in Baileys and 7 Corners; and spiraling/decreased quality of life in Mason District.

Some would say that this is the glass half filled, but isn’t really? We need leadership that can fill this glass. At this point I would settle for a trickle.

  3. Went to my neighborhood Sunoco on Castle Rd and 7 by 7 Corners today. I noticed police tape there a few days ago. Spoke to one of the workers. He said someone robbed him the other day for Newport cartons. Then the same guy robbed a Walgreens down the street. It took a detective 3 hours to show up. They pulled the license plate and the car was stolen. Haven’t seen this reported anywhere.

    1. Mary and others interested- I found out Fairfax County Police Department uses https://cityprotect.com/ to show police reports. The data apparently isn’t exact to an address to protect privacy. However there is a report on 9/17/2022 for 6300 block of Castle Pl with simple assault, destruction of property, and larceny. This seems to be the incident at the Sunoco station.

      1. The cityprotect data is not complete. For instance, there was a well publicized homicide in Williston in August, yet it does not register on CityProtect. There was also an armed carjacking in the parking lot of the Lookout 6400 in August… does not show.

  4. FCPS may be able to solve this but they are too busy hanging around at Glory Days and the Mason District parking lots to be able to patrol the neighborhoods.

If you have an issue, go to one of these two places to report a crime!

    1. Can’t blame them one bit. Treat them like trash, and they’re less likely to put their lives on the line for you — in this increasingly dangerous environment.
It’s like screaming at a dog then wondering why he doesn’t wag his tail when you come home.
Plus the FFX co pd is not allowed to chase cars unless they witness a felony.take place. So what’s the point of them patrolling?

      1. Agreed; FCPD current impotent status is a symptom of an aging and a vision lacking BoS. As I have said many times, FFX governing structure is the Board of Stupids (BoS).

        1. Let’s give credit where it’s due:

BoS does indeed have a vision and it’s being executed at this moment.

According to this vision, shootings, robberies, assaults, and so forth are non-relevant phenomena so long as FCPD does not incur bias and brutality complaints. Further, under BoS’ vision, no member of the community should live in fear of FCPD, nor the prosecutors office. The service the law enforcement institutions thus provide is to provide less service.

BoS and FCPD are only (and can only be) more and more successful when we also update our standards of success to align with theirs. A small fringe of Mason voters may not agree with this vision, but they will not meaningfully influence any elections.

  5. More shots this Sunday morning 9/25 in Baileys Crossroads. I guess the police were having their coffee and donuts at the Barcroft Plaza’s Starbucks!

Baileys never has any visible law enforcement to discourage these shootings. And there you have it, we have the finest Keystone Cops in NOVA.

Time to get the garbage out of the DUMP.

    1. Stop blaming the patrol officers of the FCPD!

They’re simply following the orders of their superiors, who are selected by the members of the Fairfax County BoS which the voters of Fairfax County, including Mason District, elected.

The voters of Fairfax County, including Mason District, decided to elect public officials who embrace reform of the criminal justice system.

If you and others are unwilling to embrace and bask in the glow of living in a jurisdiction which lives its values, which gives offenders of the law second and third chances rather than throwing them in jail and throwing away the key, it is incumbent on you to:

      Convince your fellow Fairfax voters to elect different public officials;

Embrace the justice all around you; or

To be honest and blunt, Move.

Me, I’m embracing the big suck.

      1. As to the question, “why do some people seem to have a hard time functioning in society?”
We’ve answered, “because white people are racist, and must be punished. POC must be given favor.”
To be fair, I don’t know what the answer is, but I know that’s the wrong answer.
We are experiencing the repercussions of having the wrong answer.

  6. Seen this all over the country and the world. One party rule, results in narrow mined controlled group think and corruption that passes as business development. Fairfax is no different, in fact it is worse give the totality of education and income. Vote all of the Board of Supervisors out. Don’t expect a different result till competitive elections. It’s swing districts that hit solutions – must be why Mason is left behind other districts.

  7. Please let’s note the response of FCPD to the shooting incident. Resources in manpower and equipment were sent and quickly addressed the issue. They did their jobs keeping us safe and restoring order. Fairfax like Arlington and Alexandria have a high vacancy rate and getting qualified applicants is a challenge for law enforcement. As for the BOS, recall they have limited authority in controlling the tools that contribute to violent crime. As to the housing issue, recall that federal and Commonwealth law leave it to the counties and cities to figure out housing opportunities. As President Kennedy said, ask what you can do. Is the police nonemergency number on your speed dial or telephone directory? Are you part of neighborhood watch? Let’s come together in our community, try talking to each other.
    Help each other out.

    1. Neighborhood watch is a good way to get an overzealous neighbor shot. People have to be extremely careful trying to protect property. Best just to lock your cars and your front doors. Don’t engage criminals in the act, unless life or limb is at stake. Even then, you can’t have initiated the confrontation, or you can’t claim self-defense. Everyone who thinks they’re going to save the neighborhood needs to read VA law very carefully. Escalation of force can happen in a second, and if you’re not on the right side of the law, you’re going to prison and the guy who tried to break into your car will be suing you.

    2. Wow, it’s been a long time since I have read such a nauseating piece casting away blame from those in power.

You must have been the most astute student during the course “kissing the backside of those in power.”

      Bravo!!! More of this!!!
