Skyline precinct to be split into two

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is expected to approve proposal July 9 to divide the overly large Skyline precinct into two smaller ones. Having a new precinct would alleviate some of the problems in the last election that resulted in some voters standing in line for up to four hours.
The proposal would move about 1,000 of the 4,915 voters in the existing Skyline precinct (502) to a new precinct called Plaza (509). The polling place for the Plaza precinct would be in the lobby of the Skyline Plaza condominiums, at 3703 South George Mason Drive, Falls Church.
The new Plaza precinct would include voters within the area bordered by South George Mason Drive, Leesburg Pike, the City of Alexandria boundary, and the western boundary of the Skyline Plaza property.
The Skyline precinct would be bordered by the Arlington County line, Leesburg Pike, South George Mason Drive, the western boundary of the Skyline Plaza property, the City of Alexandria boundary, Seminary Road, and Columbia Pike. The polling place would remain at Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads.
Both the Plaza and Skyline precincts would be in the eighth congressional district, 35th Virginia senatorial district, and 49th House of Delegates district.
