Socially conscious organizations sought for Annandale HS Just World Festival
The 2012 Just World Festival at Annandale High School. |
Organizers of Annandale High School’s ninth annual Just World Festival are seeking exhibitors who would like to share their socially conscious programs, causes, and issues with the community.
The festival is Feb. 28, 2:30-6 p.m., at the school. It’s open to the public, as well as students. The goals of the festival are to encourage youth activism and global citizenship and to share ways everyone can contribute to a more just and peaceful world. This year’s theme is “Make Some Noise.”
The keynote speaker will be Peter Ter, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. He has an amazing story of perseverance and achievement. He was separated from his parents when he was 3 years old during Sudan’s violent civil war and spent years wandering the country until he was eventually rescued and adopted by a family in Florida. He served in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in foreign policy at Brandeis University.
Other activities at the Just World Festival include a poetry recitation session open to all, an exhibition hall, presentations, and venders.
People interested in hosting an exhibit or workshop at Just World can register online. The registration deadline is Feb. 8. For more information about participating, contact Kate Mounteer, AHS teacher and co-sponsor of the Just World Interact Club, 703-642-4385.
