High school students and recent graduates interested in health careers are encouraged to sign up for Health and Medical 101, a new summer course from Fairfax County Public Schools’ Adult and Community Education (ACE) program.

The course runs from June 23 to Aug. 11. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Plum Center, 6815 Edsall Road, in the Springfield area of Mason District.

Jerry Hinn, head of ACE’s health and medical department, will lead the course.

Health and Medical 101 will give students a jumpstart on a health career, helping them strengthen their resumes and prepare for future coursework in high school, ACE, or college.

The course is especially valuable for those pursuing nursing, medicine, or veterinary sciences, as it will provide early exposure to medical terminology and procedures. Students will earn a Heartsaver CPR certification and explore externship opportunities to build hands-on experience.
