Updated Sept. 4: The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department put out a two-alarm fire Sept. 1 in the 3400 block of Upside Court in the Falls Church area of Mason District. Fire investigators determined the fire started in the basement utility room and was caused by a lightning strike.

First responders and elected officials at the bill signing ceremony in Bailey’s Crossroads. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam signed legislation protecting first responders at a ceremony at the Bailey’s Crossroads Fire Station May 6. The measure expands workers’ compensation to allow coverage for first responders on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Planning Commission approves new Seven Corners Fire Station
The Seven Corners Fire Station on Sleepy Hollow Road. The Fairfax County Planning Commission approved a plan May 5 to replace the aging and obsolete Seven Corners Fire Station. That building, at 2949 Sleepy Hollow Road, was built in 1975 and is not up to the county’s current standards for fire stations.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has adopted the PulsePoint Respond mobile app, which alerts residents trained in CRP to an emergency nearby involving someone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest.
