Test your eating prowess at the Taste of Annandale

On your mark, get set, eat! The person who can scarf down a bahn mi the fastest will be declared the winner of the first-ever eating contest at the Taste of Annandale.
A banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich consisting of a baguette filled with cold cuts and vegetables, such as cucumber and carrot slices, plus coriander and spicy chili sauce. If you want to practice, there are many Vietnamese restaurants in the area where you can try a bahn mi.
The Taste of Annandale is Saturday, Sept. 20, 10:30-6 p.m., at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space, 7200 Columbia Pike.

The eating cost will be in the afternoon. The specific time – and a sign-up sheet – will be announced later, after the Taste of Annandale schedule is finalized. There is no charge to compete.
The eating contest is sponsored by Pho 72 and the Viet American Foundation.
The winner will receive a gift card. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
I enjoy a good bahn mi and I can eat fairly quickly, but I am no competitive eater, so I will sit this one out. That said, the French influence can throw you a curve in the toppings. Definite not a fan of liver – so I can imagine liver pate showing up.
I hope this contest become as famous as the Nathan’s hotdog contest!
I’d like to point out that the correct spelling is banh mi, not “bahn mi”
OK. Thanks.
