The community is invited to the ninth annual Coach CJ Celebration, featuring a Mardi Gras theme, on Saturday, March 1, at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department’s social hall at 7128 Columbia Pike.
The event has a new, earlier time this year – 4-7 p.m. Mardi Gras is March 4.
The organizer, Nancy Joyner, is planning to serve traditional Mardi Gras food, including king cake, pralines, and much more. As always, there will be beer, wine, soft drinks, and coffee. There will also be a silent auction, music, dancing, and games.
The event is a fundraiser for the Team Joyner Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 2014 in memory of Joyner’s son, Clayton (Coach CJ), a swimming coach at Falls Church High School and summer swimming leagues.
The foundation provides college scholarships to Falls Church High School students with financial need and academic promise. The organization has so far awarded $111,000 to 64 students.
The cost is $25 for adults, $15 for youths under 21, and $100 for families. Sponsorships are available, too. Contact [email protected] for more information.
