Tomorrow is voting day for Democratic primary

The polls are open Tuesday, June 11, 6 a.m.-7 p.m., for the Democratic primary. Anyone can vote, regardless of party affiliation.

Voters in the Annandale/Mason area will have an opportunity to vote for candidates for state lieutenant governor (Aneesh Chopra vs. Sen. Ralph Northam) and state attorney general (Sen. Mark Herring or Justin Fairfax). Click here for a report on a Chopra/Northam debate. There is no Republican primary, as the GOP candidates for those offices were chosen at a state convention.

To check your poll location and voting registration status, visit the websites of the Virginia Board of Elections or Fairfax County Office of Elections.

You’ll need to bring a form of identification to the polls. Acceptable IDs include a valid Virginia voter registration card; Virginia drivers license; military ID; government-issued ID; photo ID issued by an employer; concealed handgun permit; student ID issued by a Virginia college; or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck with the voter’s name and address.

Fairfax County is urging voters to use an electronically scanned paper ballot during the primary rather than a touch-screen ballot. The scanned ballots have a counter that confirms that a person’s vote was registered by the machine.

The county is phasing out the touch screen machines and will implement a new voting system using state-of-the-art optical scan technologies over the next couple of years, as recommended by the county’s Bipartisan Election Process Improvement Commission.
