Townhouses proposed for Hummer Road

A rezoning proposal is expected to be submitted within the next few weeks for 11 townhouses to be developed at 4111 Hummer Road in Annandale. Dooil Shin, the owner and resident a small house at that location, wants the zoning changed from R-2 to R-8.
The property is between Horseshoe Drive and 2141 Hummer Road, a small house that the owners of Yechon restaurant next door plan to tear down to provide a larger parking lot. That house was the scene of a murder in 2009.
The proposed townhouses would have three or four bedrooms and two-car garages, says Abe Chehab of GeoEnv Engineers, which is working on the project for Shin.
Chehab estimates the rezoning process will take about 18 months and construction will take another 18 months. He plans to bring the proposal to the Mason District Land Use Committee this week and to the Fairfax County Planning Commission in March.
This is just great. Add more homes to our Mason District and more kids to are already overcrowded schools. When will the infill stop?
You do understand that adding families whose household income is above average, is a net revenue gain for the schools and county tax base, right?
"When will the infill stop?"
When there's no greenery or affordable houses left and not a moment before.
@Anonymous at 8:01 You do understand our schools are crowded and no revenue gain is going to change that.
I'm not opposed. If you're going to put townhouses anywhere, that's a good spot.
That will fit in well with the proposed Job Center for the illegal aliens that infest this area at 7700 Hummer Road.
At the next election, write in Penny Gross for Village Idiot.
Idk. About the middle and elementary schools but students in these house would go to Falls Church High. currently 30% under capacity so quit bitching
Have they changed the high school for that house? I lived in that house in the 70s and went to Annandale High School.
As a matter of fact, that side of the street goes to Annandale High School, overcrowded!
@anonymous at 9:21 and 12:15 – exactly. And which would you rather have: unplanned sprawl somewhere, or infill here? Growth is going to happen, and we need to look at it from a regional perspective, not this small minded, NIMBY outlook.
It's not which high school, Annandale High or FCHS that is the concern, it's the back up of traffic EVERY SINGLE DAY at the intersection of Hummer and 236, coupled with heavy traffic in and out of Korea Korner. There is no room for widening that area of the road. It's not a "NIMBY" mentality, it's just plain ridiculous! I'm pissed!
