The paved trail will follow the existing gravel path, will
be eight to 10 feet wide, and “will be designed to minimize the impact to
natural resources contained within the park,” states an announcement from the Park
Authority. Environmental and historic resource professionals will be involved
in the design process.
The trail, officially known as the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail, is one of the most heavily used in the county. It
needs to be paved because it floods after heavy rains, and soft-gravel trails
are harder and more expensive to maintain, says project manager Bill Boston.

Thanks for posting this! My family uses this trail all the time.
I am in favor of this. The trail will hold up better, it will be cheaper to maintain in the long run, and it will be, if not fully wheelchair-accessible, at least more wheelchair friendly.
How about Old Columbia Pike?????
What a shame. Can't we leave some of nature natural?
Because an unpaved trail is natural, especially one alongside an electric power line, right?
Might as well call the trail the W&OD now. They are currently paving south of braddock and now talking about paving north of braddock….taking away all the charm of the CCT.
