Trash pickups delayed during holiday week

Fairfax County will not provide trash and recycling pickup on Christmas Day.

If your regularly scheduled collection is on Tuesday, your trash and recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Wednesday customers will receive trash/recycling collection on Thursday, Dec. 27, Thursday customers have their trash picked up on Friday, Dec. 28, and Friday customers will have a pick up on Saturday, Dec. 29.

To ensure pickup, all trash and recycling must be at the curb by 6 a.m. during the holiday week.
The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, and will be closed all day on Dec. 25.

There will be no change to the trash/recycling collection schedule for New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2019.

Christmas trees on the curb will be collected during the first two weeks of January for recycling (Jan. 1-11). Lights, decorations, and stands must be removed. After Jan. 11, you’ll have to schedule a brush pickup to get your tree removed.

In other holiday closings and schedule changes:

• Fairfax County libraries are closed Dec. 24, 25, and Jan. 1.

• Metrorail will operate 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. on a regular weekday schedule on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day.

• On New Year’s Eve, Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. with special late-night service until 2 a.m. on a regular weekday schedule. Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on Jan. 1.

• Metrorail will operate 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. on a regular weekday schedule on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day.

• Metrobus will operate on a regular schedule on Dec. 24, 25, and 31 and a Sunday schedule on Jan. 1.

• The Fairfax Connector is on a holiday weekday schedule on Dec. 24 and 31 and a Sunday schedule on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

• Audrey Moore RECenter, Providence RECenter, Green Spring Gardens, and Hidden Oaks Nature Center are closed on Dec. 25.

• , Audrey Moore and Providence RECenters close at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and are open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Jan. 1.

• Green Spring Gardens and Hidden Oaks are closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

  1. We are lucky we are getting picked up a day later. Crap is the C in County for Fairfax County. The new add for those Amazon folks moving here should read: if you want to live near the A list live in Alexandria and Arlington. If you want to live with the C list live in Fairfax.

  2. Looks like my neighborhood all the time. The lazy renters and multifamily immigrants leave their trash bins on the street curb all the time. I call the county and they say they cannot do anything about it. What a do nothing local government. Can someone please tell me what they do?
