If you or someone in your family is a veteran, you’re invited to join American Legion Post 1976, at 4209 Daniels Ave. in the heart of Annandale.

The post offers a full calendar of fun events, including “a monthly breakfast that’s the best in town,” says Post member Diane Ramsey.

Activities at Post 1976 include trivia contests, spaghetti dinners, steak dinners, karaoke, movie nights, Texas Hold ’em, queen of hearts games, sock hops, holiday meals, football game watch parties, and more.

The post is also a great place to hang out, have lunch, and play pool or an arcade game. “Meeting new people in our club is a great part of the experience,” Ramsey says. Members can also book a private party room that can accommodate 90 people.

There are several subgroups, including the American Legion Riders, a motorcycle club; the Sons of the American Legion; and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Post 1976 participates in Toys for Tots, Wreaths Across America, the annual Annandale parade, and the Cloverleaf Equine Center experience. The group also delivers meals to veterans facing food insecurity.

Ramsey invites community members to stop by any time or contact her at [email protected] or 703-941-9608 to see if they qualify for the American Legion.

  1. I will vouch for the awesomeness of the Commanders Breakfasts, open to everyone, not just members. Also cheap drinks at the bar, movie nights, etc. If you’re not eligible to join, you can go as the guest of a member.

    1. No, however, we are currently working on an area outside to be the smoking area. Certain events will be non-smoking.

  2. There is no smoking during public events or breakfast. They are also making an outdoor smoking lounge to encourage smoking outside. Only the bar is a smoking section (not during public events) and the hall is all non-smoking. During private events, the hall is closed off with sliding divider doors.
It is a lovely Post! They made many upgrades and have done a great job making it an inviting and fun Post.
