Volunteers clean up Culmore

Local youths and organizations came together on Sept. 6 to pick up litter in the Culmore area of Bailey’s Crossroads.
A total of 106 people participated in Culmore Cleanup Day, reports organizer Andres Curtin of Second Story, the lead agency for Fairfax County’s Opportunity Neighborhoods initiative in Bailey’s Crossroads.
Most of the participants were youths involved with the Culmore Teen Center operated by Second Story. Among others, there were volunteers from the Latin fraternity Lambda Theta Phi at George Mason University and the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club.

Anthem HealthKeepers sponsored the event and provided pizza to the cleanup crew afterwards at the Culmore Community Library. The Rotary Club provided trash grabbers, and HACAN and the Friends of Holmes Run gave out water bottles.
The public is invited to come back to the Culmore Library on Saturday, Sept. 13, for Culmore Community Day. The event, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., features folk dance performances, children’s activities, a mobile medical clinic, giveaways, and more.
I happened to drive by on that day . So nice to see even the youngest of kids taking part and it looked as if they were having such fun! Thank you for your hard work !
Great work!
