Help package oatmeal for the needy

Rotarians and other volunteers assembled school supplies at the Moose Lodge last summer.

If you’ve resolved to do more volunteering in 2025, here’s a good way to start: The Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads, the Arlington Moose Lodge, and the Bailey’s Crossroads Lions Club invite community members to take part in an oatmeal packaging event on Jan. 4.

Volunteers will assemble 18,000 servings of fortified oatmeal to help low-income people get through the cold winter months.

The two-hour event starts at noon on Saturday at the Moose Lodge at 5710 Scoville St., Bailey’s Crossroads. Sign up here.

Assembly lines will be set up where volunteers will measure, weigh, and package the oatmeal.

This activity is appropriate for middle and high school students, as well as adults. There will also be a separate line for younger children but they must be accompanied by an adult.

Some of the oatmeal packages will be delivered to schools for distribution to students when weather predictions call for school closures. The rest will go to seniors through community food programs.
