Volunteers put together school bags at the Rotary Club’s Great Assembly

More than 75 volunteers put together 2,000 backpacks full of school supplies in less than two hours in a highly coordinated assembly line arrangement.
The annual event, known as the Great Assembly, took place Aug. 3 at the Moose Lodge in Bailey’s Crossroads.
The Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club organized the event and contributed $5,000 worth of school supplies.

The Moose Lodge donated $1,000. Volunteers from the Bailey’s Crossroads Host Lions Club and Leo’s Club, the Lions group for high school students, participated, too.

The backpacks will go to schools in the Justice pyramid, including Glen Forest, Parklawn, Beech Tree, Sleepy Hollow, and Bailey’s Upper and Primary elementary schools; Glasgow Middle School; and Justice High School.
The schools will distribute the backpacks to students whose families are least able to afford school supplies.
