Voting in Mason District starts Saturday for the Aug. 4 primaries

Early voting for the Aug. 4 Democratic and Republican primaries will be available from Saturday, July 25, through Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Mason District Government Center and Thomas Jefferson Library.

The Democratic ballot for voters in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District lists these candidates:

Rep. Don Beyer – Member of the House of Representatives since 2015; senior House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee; member of the House Ways and Means Committee’s subcommittees on Trade and Tax; former ambassador to Switzerland (2019-13); former Virginia lieutenant governor (1990-98).

Mohamed “Mo” Seifeldein – A former member of the Alexandria City Council (2019-21) and a former attorney at the U.S. Department of Labor who resigned from the federal government in protest of Trump policies that undermined the civil service and the rule of law.

Michael Christian Duffin – A former counterterrorism expert at the Department of State.

Adam Dunigan – A Marine veteran and former case officer at the CIA.

Lorena Thorne Bruner – An advocate for military families.

Mason District and nearly all of Annandale are in the 8th District.

There is no Republican Primary for the 8th District, as there is only one Republican candidate, Tony Sabio. He will be on the General Election ballot on Nov. 3.

The Republican Primary includes these candidates for the U.S. Senate:  

Bert Mizusawa – A former major general in the Army; former deputy undersecretary of the Army, former senior advisor to the director of the CIA.

David Williams – A Navy and Marine veteran and a former CIA case officer.

Kim Farington – A certified public accountant.

There is no Democratic Primary for the Senate. Sen. Mark Warner (D) is up for reelection in November and doesn’t have a primary opponent.

The polls will be open for early voting at the Mason Government Center and Thomas Jefferson Library 9 a.m.-5 on Saturday, July 25, and Saturday, Aug. 1; noon-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 26; and 1-7 p.m. on July 27-31.
