Wakefield Skate Park hosts ‘Skate the Wake’

The Wakefield Skate Park was redesigned last fall.

Calling all skaters – Wakefield Skate Park is hosting a free party Saturday, May 13, with a contest, skateboard clinic, music, food, and vendors.

Skate the Wake will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, next to the Audrey Moore Rec Center.

Meet Mimi Knoop, a five-time X-Games medalist, coach of the USA Skateboarding team, and founder and president of the Women’s Skateboarding Alliance.

Local instructors will teach experienced skaters new tricks at the Skateboard Trick Clinic, 10-11 a.m. Space is limited to 20 participants. Register here.

A Best Trick Contest, 12:30-2 p.m., will be judged by skating professionals from the Fairfax Surf Shop, along with Mimi Knoop and Spike Mendelsohn, a local restaurateur and Top Chef competitor. Space is limited to 30 participants. Register here.

Derran Eaddy, founder of Solstik Music, will be the DJ for Skate the Wake.  

Food will be sold by the El Chef Latino food truck, We the Pizza, and Dolcezza.

Vendors include the Alpine Ski Shop, the Bicycle Pro Shop, Eat the Change, Fairfax County Park Authority, Fairfax Surf Shop, Brain Injury Services, Triumph Scooter Gear, and Trek.
