Weekend crimes include assaults and robberies

Several crimes occurred in the Annandale/Mason area in recent days, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

There was a domestic violence incident on Parkman Court, Annandale, a block from Braddock Elementary School, just after midnight on Dec. 25. A 51-year-old man became irate during an argument with his wife. He grabbed a machete and allegedly cut her and their 14-year-old son and then fled.

The victims, along with the couple’s 2-year-old child, left the home. The mother and 14-year-old were treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was apprehended approximately two and a-half hours later. He was charged with two counts of malicious wounding, and an emergency protective order was issued.

There was a robbery at the Arlington Bodega in the Willston Shopping Center in Seven Corners at about 9:46 p.m. on Dec. 26. A 59-year-old man working in the store was closing up when he noticed another man in the store. The suspect produced a gun and demanded money. The employee handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect fled. He was described as black, with a dark complexion, between 25 and 30 years old, and about 5 feet 3 inches tall with a thin build. He had a short beard and wore a black hat and dark-colored jacket.

On Dec. 25, a 22-year-old man got into an argument with two other men and was apparently stabbed just before midnight in the 4100 block of Wadsworth Court in the Fairmont Gardens apartment complex in Annandale. He was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled on foot and have been tentatively identified.

Just after 10 p.m. on Dec. 25, a 31-year-old man was walking home from a store along the 7800 block of Heritage Drive, Annandale, when he was surrounded by five men. Two of them threatened the victim with a chain and knife and demanded money. The victim refused to hand over any money and recorded the incident on his phone. The suspects fled. They were all described as Hispanic, in their 20s, and between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall.

Also on Dec. 25, a 27-year-old woman and her children entered their home in the Wedgewood Apartments on the 7700 block of Suraci Court, Annandale, at about 10:30 p.m. and found a stranger’s muddy boots inside. She checked the home and discovered an unknown male sleeping in one of the bedrooms.

The victim left the home and called the police. A K9 team along with additional officers arrived and confronted the suspect. He was uncooperative at first, but then agreed to talk after being bitten by a police dog. The 17-year-old suspect was arrested, taken to a hospital where he was treated for the bite, and released to his father. A juvenile petition will be sought.
