Fairfax County’s surveys on gateway signage for Seven Corners and Bailey’s Crossroads are now live.

The surveys are the first step in the community engagement process for designing gateway signs and banners that promote the unique character of each revitalization area.

“This is a prime opportunity for the community to guide the aesthetic identity and branding of Bailey’s Crossroads and Seven Corners to enhance the sense of place in each area,” says Alex Howle, program manager in the Department of Planning and Development’s Community Revitalization Section.

There are separate surveys for each area. The surveys are open through June 2.

Among other questions, both surveys ask respondents to describe:

  • What makes the area special?
  • What makes you most proud to be part of this community?
  • What local stories, figures, or events should be reflected in the gateway sign design?
  • If the sign design had a short phrase, motto, or theme, what should it say?
  • What imagery or symbols best represent the community?

The Bailey’s Crossroads survey is available here. Access the Seven Corners survey here.

The county’s graphic design consultants Torti Gallas + Partners and Ashton Design will use the survey responses to guide the design process and incorporate the insights and suggestions from the community to come up with two design concepts for each area. Each set of concepts will be presented at one or more public meetings for additional community feedback.

  1. We need signs for downtown Annandale. Now enter downtown and now leaving downtown- 100 feet apart

    1. There have been signs for Annandale for almost/over 2 decades…very few ever notice them. Search for “Annandale signs” online and you’ll see the images.

The images may need updating…but there there higher priority items for Annandale to take care of before updating some signs.

  2. The proximity to DC.

The rest sucks. Way too expensive, generally ugly except some of the tucked away neighborhoods, rude drivers, traffic disaster, too much crime, garbage all over, miles of dilapidated strip malls.

    1. But it’s SPECIAL….the county increase in taxes is most special. Homeless encampments are very special.
The crime reports are super special. Potholes are really special.
