Woman fatally stabbed in Annandale

A woman was fatally stabbed in Annandale on Friday, Nov. 7, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. The suspect is in custody.
Shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to a report of an unconscious person with trauma to the upper body in the 3900 block of Terrace Drive in the Columbia Pines neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers located Isha Koroma, 26, of Alexandria. She was declared deceased at the scene.
Preliminarily, detectives believe Musa Kargbo, 42, of Maryland, traveled to Annandale and fatally stabbed Koroma. This does not appear to be a random act, as the suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other.
With the assistance of Prince George’s County Police, Kargbo was taken into custody this morning in Lanham, Md. He will be extradited to Fairfax County, where he will be charged with second-degree murder.
Detectives are conducting interviews and processing evidence recovered from the scene to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
According to a report on NBC4, Koroma was a teacher who was working in her home with a neighbor’s nine-year-old autistic daughter just before the attack.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers. Anonymous tipsters are eligible for cash rewards.
Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim’s family is receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
I hope this violent killer will spend the rest of his life in prison.
This murder took place about 100 yards from my home while we were coming and going with the business of every day life. I know very little as fact, but some details are out there. For starters, the articles I have found identify the young lady as an immigrant from Sierra Leone that was teaching a special needs child prior to this brutal attack. If you know the history of that country, you will know that at the start of the 21st century it was a place of civil war and some of the most inhumane acts of butchery seen in modern times. The movie Blood Diamonds touched on it, but it was much worse than depicted there. Take a look at the Wikipedia page for more details if you are interested.
Isha Koroma seems to have been an amazing survivor, and the exact type of immigrant that can contribute to this nation by converting her trauma and energy into kindness and light. (again, only speculation, but the shared details support) She was seemingly grateful for the generosity and compassion expressed in her new home and seeking to not only benefit herself, but share and improve her community. Our community.
The killer, whom I will not name, is strangely referred to as a “Maryland Man” although he was known to the victim and also had a Sierra Leonian name. The Sierraloaded website actually describes him as “A 42-year-old Sierra Leonean man, REDACTED, who resides in Maryland”. It seems likely that he too might be an immigrant, perhaps also traumatized and this trauma manifested itself in darkness.
Almost ironically, despite the darkness of heart and night, it was light that looks to have solved this case. The light captured in cameras that observed enough of this horrific attack to get the investigation off on the right foot. The cameras installed by homeowners to protect families and property were unfortunately only mute witnesses and could not intervene, but launched the march towards an imperfect, earthly justice.
While this literally hit close to home, I have also travelled to Liberia during a lull in their civil war and know a bit about the areas where this tragedy got its start. I remember destruction and disruption, but also smiles and generosity. So, even the remoteness of their origins seems familiar to me, making it a little harder to process.
In this polarized environment, I can see how some might want to downplay and others amplify some aspects as anecdotal or representative of larger trends, but only by bringing the true facts to light can we learn the value of what we lost and capture the lessons necessary to keep our communities safe for all. The “Maryland Man” will face justice and only through honest reflection can we honor the memory of Isha and minimize the damage to our societal fabric when such tragedies occur. Isha deserves not to be forgotten and we should have the courage to look honestly at the dynamics that led to her murder. We owe that to her.
Rest in peace Ms. Koroma. We’ll keep you, your family and friends in our prayers.
Thank you for your thoughtful and compassionate response.
Thank you for your extended information about the background of this crime. You’re to be commended.
