Wonder, a new kind of food hall, to open in Falls Church

Annandale is losing its popular food hall, The Block, but Falls Church is getting a different kind of food hall concept called Wonder.

The Block and its neighbors are closing by Aug. 31 to make way for the construction of an apartment building.

Wonder offers meals made from recreated recipes from nationally known chefs and restaurants. It is expected to open in 2026 in the storefront at 100 W. Broad Street formerly occupied by Brown’s Hardware, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Brown’s Hardware, one of the oldest businesses in the area, opened in the 1880s as J.W. Brown’s Groceries and Hardware, according to the Falls Church Independent. The store closed earlier this year. A real estate company purchased the property in June for $3.6 million, the WBJ states.

Wonder offers delivery, pickup, and dine-in options. The company partners with celebrity chefs, including James Beard Award winners, Michelin star recipients, and Food Network stars. Diners can order food from more than 20 restaurants.

There are 56 Wonder locations, all on the East Coast, including one in D.C. Another one is having a grand opening in Rosslyn on July 24. Three more shops are opening this fall, in Franconia, Reston, and Fairfax.

Wonder was founded by billionaire entrepreneur Marc Lore. The company acquired meal-kit businesses Blue Apron in 2023 and GrubHub in 2024.

    1. I used to go to the one in Baileys Crossroads (near X-Roads Cleaners) to get day-old goods. Oh, wait…
