Woodburn Village residents suffering for days without AC
With temperatures in the upper 90s and extreme humidity, it’s so nice to come home to an air-conditioned home.
Now imagine how miserable it would be to live with indoor temperatures at 95 degrees.
That’s the situation at Woodburn Village condo on Woodburn Road in Annandale, where the air conditioning hasn’t been working since Sunday, July 17.
According to Mimi Li, who works in the property manager office, 29 buildings, affecting some 725 households are affected.
“It’s like being in a sauna, like opening an oven” when you get home, said one resident. He worries about how older residents with medical conditions are dealing with the extreme heat.
The resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said it was so bad he left on Sunday night. The next day he bought a portable AC unit for the bedroom but it only brought the temperature down to the 80s.
The National Weather Service predicts the oppressive heat wave will continue through the weekend. The index for today is expected to reach 105 degrees.
The air conditioning goes out two or three times a month and it’s usually fixed soon, but this time it’s been more than four days, the resident said. “This is unacceptable.”
Another resident said he’s used to the heat, having lived in Mexico, but this is much worse.
Milena, who we met cooling off in the pool with her children ages 6 and 8, said even with fans and all the windows open, the temperature in her home has been at 95 degrees for the past few days. She’s been giving her kids a cool shower before bed but everyone is soon sweating again.
Li said someone is coming to fix the AC today. The condo provided 29 fans last night on a first-come-first-served basis.
The outage happened when a motor burned out on Sunday and the vendor had trouble getting the part needed to fix it, Li said. They located the part in New York and the vendor drove up there to get it. Then when they were working on the AC on Tuesday, they found an electrical problem.
I am soooo happy I moved away from Woodburn many moons ago!
I was without a/c last July for about two weeks, IIRC. Each unit in my condo complex has its own a/c and mine picked a great time to have problems. It’s not fun, that’s for sure. I hope these folks get their a/c soon!
When my a/c goes out I chill at the homeless shelter. It’s how I met my husband.
Comment of the post!
This is happens multiple times a month.
Water gets shut off frequently.
My landlord Scott Liu had refused to compensate me in anyway each and everytime.
This past week he made it clear that I will still owe rent in full and that this AC outage isn’t his problem and is “out of his control.”
Do not move here, for this place is HELL.
Mr Thompson, I am sorry to hear that you live in HELL. Sounds like Mr Liu is one of the s—t landlords that should be shipped back to whatever hole he came from. Attitudes and conduct like this gives all the immigrants a bad name. You should find out where he lives and cut the lines to his AC unit in his gaudy McMansion.
Air conditioning was restored Saturday morning, July 23, a resident reports.
I have lived in these condos on and off for 30 years and never seen the things that I see on a day-to-day basis. Outside it looks pretty because of the landscaping, minus the trash that is illegally put outside the buildings by residents. Inside the buildings it looks in disrepair and dirty. Carpets are dirty and smell bad, laundry rooms are disgusting and panels from electric boxes are missing. Roaches and bedbugs are rampant in most of the buildings. It seems like the influx of people trying to escape high rents are moving and bringing the bugs with them.

They probably can’t take care of all of it but it is a place to start.
The fact that we don’t have heat of AC when is most needed, is the least of the problems at Woodburn village condominiums, because there are other health hazards there, that should be addressed but of course how do we go for that to happen, is unknown, because, sending letters and complaining doesn’t do it.
My wife and I are thinking of buying a condo here. The exterior is beautiful and the unit itself doesn’t look bad. The lack of in-unit laundry is concerning. Then I read these reviews and they’re pretty bad.
Anyone have advice on buying a condo here?
Just general advice. Go West. Annandale isn’t safe anymore.
