Yard sale Sept. 21 will support children in need

Members of the 2Twenty Club pack food for children to take home.

The community is invited to a yard sale and bazaar Saturday to raise money to help ensure needy children at local schools have enough healthy food to get through the weekend.

The yard sale, organized by the 2Twenty Club, is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Lincolnia United Methodist Church, 6335 Little River Turnpike.

There will be new and used books, clothes for men and women, shoes, bags, hats, accessories, and household items. Food will be available for sale, too, including gimbab, teogbokki, odeng, and deep-fried vegetables.

The 2Twenty Club is a nonprofit organization established in 2007 with the mission, “spreading our love to others,” says club president Sook Moon.

Moon says the club is “committed to building a happier and more vibrant community through sharing two hours and $20 every month with elementary school children and their families who are in need.”

Club members, about 45 women, put together 10-gallon packages for children to take home for their families. The Weekend Backpack Food Program supports students at Braddock, Lynbrook, Pine Spring, Woodburn, and Bren Mar Park elementary schools.

The group started with a school in Centreville then switched to schools in the Annandale/Springfield/Falls Church area. They’ve been working with Braddock Elementary School for six or seven years and added Bren Mar Park to the lineup this year.
