You’re all invited to the Coach CJ Celebration

A previous Coach CJ Celebration drew a big crowd.

The Coach CJ Celebration is back – after a two-year hiatus.

The seventh annual event will be held March 11, 7-10 p.m., at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department social hall, 7128 Columbia Pike.

The St. Patrick’s Day-themed party is a fundraiser for the scholarship program run by the Team Joyner Foundation.

The Coach CJ Celebration features music, dancing, food and drinks, a silent auction, and games for all ages.

Silent auction items include themed gift baskets, home décor, movie tickets, gift cards, sports memorabilia, and much more.

The event is organized by Annandale resident Nancy Joyner in remembrance of her son Clayton Joyner, a well-regarded swim coach who died tragically of a heart attack in 2014 at age 29.

Clayton, known as Coach CJ, was head coach of the Falls Church High School swim and dive team, head coach of the swim team at the Holmes Run Pool, and coach and manager of his own year-round swim club, the Victory Lane Aquatic Club.

The Team Joyner Foundation’s Clayton Joyner Memorial Scholarships program awards $2,000 per student to two or more graduating seniors at Falls Church High School to attend Northern Virginia Community College.

To qualify, students must show financial need and academic promise. The foundation has so far awarded $80,000 to 40 students.

The cost to attend the Coach CJ Celebration is $25 for adults 21 and over, $15 for those under 21, and $100 per family. You can register in advance (that will help with planning) or pay at the door.

Sponsorships are available for $250 and $1,000 for Reach for the Wall sponsors.

Checks and donations can be mailed to the Team Joyner Foundation, P.O. Box 2614, Merrifield, VA, 22116, or submitted via PayPal to [email protected].

  1. I did not personally know Coach CJ, but understand he was just an exemplary human being beloved by students and parents alike. I’ve heard there will be a silent auction of fun things, music and dancing and that, “it’s just a great party.” So come on out & support a good cause. See you there!
