Z’s Boxing Gym opens in Annandale

Z’s Boxing Gym trains boxers of all ages and skill levels.

Z’s Boxing Gym is having a soft opening in Annandale. Owner Eric Zimmerman is planning a grand opening celebration on Jan. 11.

It’s located at 4119 John Marr Drive in a former phone store next to Goodwill.

The facility trains boxers for competition and holds classes for people of all skill levels, including kids starting at age 5. There are also classes just for women.

“We are for everyone,” Zimmerman says, including people training for mixed martial arts, as well as amateur and professional boxers.

Currently, classes are held in the afternoon and evening. In January, morning classes will be added, he says.

Memberships range from $125 a month for kids up to age 12 to $212.50 a month for an annual contract for adults. A single-day pass is $35. First responders, service members, and veterans get a 10 percent discount.

Z’s Boxing Gym offers a free class during the soft-opening period.

It’s a bare-bones facility, with a boxing ring, punching bags, gloves, weights, and not much else.

Zimmerman, a former professional boxer, had his last boxing matches in Italy and Slovenia about eight years ago.

A few months later, he had eye surgery after being injured during a deployment in Afghanistan. He quit boxing and transitioned to full-time coaching.
