Amazon Fresh opens in Bailey’s Crossroads

The Amazon Fresh grocery store opened yesterday in Bailey’s Crossroads, offering gift cards, giveaways, and discounts to first-day shoppers.

The store is located at 5811 Crossroads Center Way in the Crossroads shopping center between Staples and Golf Galaxy.

The store, in a former Safeway building, was a long time coming. We first announced Amazon’s plans for the space in January 2021. Amazon left it vacant for years, as the company retooled its grocery business.

The store has a salad bar, hot bar, fresh pizza, a large produce section, fresh flowers, and holiday greens, but not much in the way of prepared foods. There’s no fresh seafood or deli counter, house-made bakery items, pharmacy, or more than a limited amount of non-food items.

Shoppers try a Dash Cart.

About one in 10 customers were using Dash Carts, an employee said. We spotted several people trying to figure out how to use those special grocery carts, They have a screen allowing shoppers to scan the bar codes on items, weigh produce, and pay for groceries without having to wait in line.

Shoppers can also pay at the self-checkout registers, pay via Amazon One by scanning the palm of their hand, or go through regular checkout lines manned by humans.

The store offers 10 percent off on store brands plus other daily discounts to Amazon Prime members. Yesterday’s deals included four avocados for $1.99 and a pint of blueberries for $2.99.

There are rotating deals every day for all shoppers. Today, it’s a whole pizza and 12-pack of mini Coca-Cola cans for $12.

The Bailey’s Crossroads store is open every day 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

    1. It will last. The store in Alexandrea (Manchester Lakes) has done quite well. It’s also a pick-up and return hub for Amazon purchases.

    2. Actually majority of people that shop in Baileys Crossroads Center don’t live there. I know for a fact that some people come from the city and North Arlington because there is plenty of free parking

  1. Really disappointing , I was so happy at first to see a new store in area but the prices are
Disappointing. I can go 5 min in either direction of Columbia pike and get the same items for so much less . Obviously they didn’t do their homework when they picked this area . People don’t want to pay those kind of prices when they have other options. Can’t see this store lasting in area too long unless they lower prices.
