The Mason Police Station has a new commander

Major Cristina Burrow has been appointed commander of the Mason Police Station, the Fairfax County Police Department announced on July 31.
The former station commander, Major Erin Weeks, had been promoted to the position of deputy police chief and heads the Department of Internal Affairs.
Burrow has been with the FCPD since 2011. She served as a patrol officer at the Mount Vernon Police Station and as a member of the Tysons Urban Team before becoming a detective with the Major Crimes Bureau.
As a supervisor, she served at the Sully, West Springfield, and Mount Vernon District Stations, as well as the Internal Affairs Bureau. Most recently, she served as the commander of the Crisis Intervention Team.
Burrow holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and has completed several professional programs, including the FCPD Commanders College, the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Leadership in Police Organizations program and its Women’s Leadership Institute, and the Institute for Leadership in Changing Times. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in National Security.
In addition to her service with FCPD, Major Burrow is an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve with operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. She is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Inspector General School and Command and General Staff College.
Deanna Weand has been promoted to the rank of Major and will serve as the commander of the Franconia Police Station.
Weand began her career with FCPD in 2005 as a 911 operator at the Public Safety Communications Center. Since graduating from the Criminal Justice Academy, she has served at multiple patrol stations and in a variety of supervisory, administrative, and command assignments.
Her experience includes supporting information technology for the implementation of body-worn cameras and security operations for the 2015 World Police and Fire Games. Most recently, she commanded the Community Engagement Division, overseeing community outreach, crime prevention, youth programs, volunteer services, and initiatives designed to strengthen partnerships between the Police Department and the community.
Major Christopher Cosgriff is the new executive officer of operations at the Police Department.
Cosgriff’s experience includes patrol officer at the West Springfield station, member of the Special Operations Division’s Technical Response Unit, first-line supervisor at the Mason Police Station, several positions at the Internal Affairs Bureau, and commander of the Public Affairs Bureau.

Zero chance she could subdue a criminal.
With a taser, even you could subdue one.
Zero chance you know what the hell you’re talking about.
Oh crud! Do I agree with you again??
Just watching TV shows us it’s really really difficult for any individual officer male or female to subdue a determined or drug crazed adversary of approx the same size.
It’s made even more difficult because while the officer is fighting off punches, eye gouging, and biting, she must also at all costs protect access to her service weapon.
Most of us couldn’t do it, but she’s also had training most folks haven’t including how to avoid such situations.
Would I put her up against a po’d Conner McGregor? Of course not! Well, I guess long enough so I could run away.
Cheers
Amen, sister!
Please arrest and prosecute criminals. It’s your only function. God speed!
Based on merit, she was the best.
Congratulations. It certainly sounds as though you are qualified for the job.
I’m glad to see women making rank in the FCPD!
Congratulations on your promotion. If I may suggest I do hope there is planning to monitor more closely the continued speeding on Columbia Pike particularly from Blair Road into Annandale Sleepy Hollow Rd. From my perspective it is like living on a major speedway. Up to 60 mph at times. And the racing up the motors are extremely nerve racking. Much thanks for monitoring this racing & make some money from tickets. Thank you for considering this.
Major Cristina Burrow, welcome to Mason district!
