Annandale fire displaced five

A townhouse fire in the 7800 block of Rectory Lane in Annandale on March 23 displaced five people, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

First responders arrived shortly before 2 p.m. and quickly extinguished a kitchen fire in a middle unit, over-under, one-story townhouse.

There were no injuries. No one was home at the time. A neighbor discovered smoke coming from the residence and called 911. There were no working smoke alarms in the home.

Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental and started on the stovetop. The fire was caused by an item left unattended on an electric burner.

The displaced occupants accepted assistance from the Red Cross. Damages were estimated at  $75,000.
