Masonic lodge in Annandale for sale

The Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge is selling its building at 6911 Columbia Pike in Annandale.
The Masons only use it for monthly meetings. They own the building but they’re finding it hard to keep up with maintenance expenses. They used to rent out the space for events hosted by other organizations, but that has slowed down since Covid, says lodge member Nelson Figueroa-Velez.
The two-story brick building is 8,544 square feet and has 52 parking spaces and room for more. The 1.45-acre property is zoned R-2. The listing, posted by Divaris Real Estate, doesn’t include a price. Fairfax County property records put the 2026 assessed value of the building and land at $788,530.
Figueroa-Velez says the lodge has already received a $3.4 million offer. There’s been a lot of interest in the property, he said, including from a gas company, daycare centers, churches, and a medical practice. The sale has to be approved by the national Masonic organization before it can go forward.
Meanwhile, the Elmer Timberman Lodge is looking for a new location for its meetings.

Figueroa-Velez, an immigration attorney at the International Embassy, has organized monthly Asiantique festivals at the rear of the lodge from spring to fall for the past couple of years with dozens of Thai food vendors and entertainment.
There won’t be any Asiantique events this year, he said, because of the pending sale.

According to the Masonic Lodge’s website, the lodge was founded after “a number of Masons who regularly patronized the little 10′ x 10′ post office located in Joe Mettaurer’s filling station” petitioned the Grand Lodge of Virginia to establish a new outpost in Annandale.
Their request was approved in 1952. The new lodge was named for the Right Worshipful Elmer Timberman, a prominent Mason who operated a drugstore in Alexandria. The Masons initially met in the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, the Annandale United Methodist Church, and other temporary locations until the existing building was completed in 1961.
This was the lodge our family (Masons, Eastern Star) belonged to back in the early 60s. Also did things at Kena Temple (Shriners) which was just outside Fairfax City on Arlington Blvd; it has since moved to Manassas.

My dad actually laid the cornerstone when this lodge was built and was the master of the lodge in 1985.
