Annandale is getting a new grocery store

This building used to be a party supply store and before that, a pet store.

Construction is underway on a Megamart Supermarket at 4415 John Marr Drive in Annandale. It’s going into a storefront that’s been vacant since Party Co. closed in March 2020.

Megamart is a regional grocery chain specializing in Hispanic items with 11 stores in Virginia and Maryland. The Virginia stores are in Arlington, Alexandria, and Manassas. Some Megamart stores have additional services, such as gold sales, mobile phone repair, and sporting goods.

  1. What great variety of ethnic foods we have available in Annandale! Competition among grocery stores should keep prices lower than if there were a monopoly. I’ll have to try some new recipes.

  2. I think the place is too small for a megamart and also how about the parking and even the traffic, they should put the megamart across the street, on Kmart space when they closed

  3. Oh no more competition! Giant, Safeway, Aldi, K-Market, H-Mart, Lotte and now Megamart only in Annandale, less than two miles apart. Good luck.

  4. Limited parking and difficult traffic flow on John Marr Drive will be problematic. I’m surprised that FFX County approved this location for a grocery store.

  6. Megamart should consider moving into Culmore where the Walgreen was. It’s the right size for their store’s it seems with lots of potential customers.

    1. The county just want to increase its tax base. Look at the smoke and vape shops popping up. I think they have a moral obligation to consider the health of its citizens.

  7. I miss the old SuperPetz. But at they are putting in something that isn’t a laundromat or party store.
Now I have some place to get all of the chili peppers I can’t find elsewhere.

  8. The street litter and trash generated by that shopping center and the Block area has spiked. Do county health dept folks bother to visit these places? Do the business owners have any pride in the community ? Any pride in the appearance of their business? Avoid any business that doesn’t bother to maintain the property – it’s a good indicator of very unclean practices inside the operation as well –
