Annandale man arrested for aiming laser at a police helicopter

Fairfax County Police arrested a man for shining a laser pointer at the police helicopter, Fairfax One, and putting the lives of the flight crew at risk, the FCPD reported on March 22.

According to a story on Fox5, the suspect was identified as Elia Massis of Annandale. The helicopter was circling the area around the 4100 block of Medford Drive in Annandale at about 1 a.m. on March 13 searching for a suspect in an unrelated burglary, when it was struck by the laser.

The flight crew directed officers to the third floor of an apartment building where the laser was coming from.

Massis was charged with one count of interfering with the operation of an aircraft and one count of pointing a laser at a law enforcement officer. He was released on an unsecured bond.

  1. In April 2022, Fairfax Times noted he was picked up for robbery! If we had a judicial system he should have been in jail! He obviously has not learned from his mistakes!
