Annandale to get another Korean restaurant
A long-vacant building in the center of Annandale has been leased to a Korean restaurant franchise.
The building, at 7220 Columbia Pike, formerly housed a Bank of America branch and was originally a Safeway.
The new restaurant will be geared toward younger people, and the interior will be completely redone, says real estate agent Michael Falcone of Century 21 Commercial New Millenium. The bank vault in the building will be removed.
The new tenant doesn’t want to reveal the name of the restaurant, Falcone says. While the building permit lists the project name as “1943 Soju & Beer,” that isn’t it. He says the restaurant is expected to open in May 2024.

Keep the Vault! – what a unique dinning option to have dinner in the vault…and, I argue more of any eating options is great! – Much success!
Hey as long as they pay taxes I’m happy. Tried the new OMy Chiq and Bar. Not much chicken, lots of mediocre Asian food but a fun & funky bar vibe with some inventive cocktails. No one complains about too many hamburger or taco places.
Better than mediocre, and hopeful that they will work things out in time (not open very long), but I agree OMy Chiq is not yet a super compelling go-to place. They do show promise, in my opinion. A new Korean restaurant oriented to youth tells me it will be in competition with The Block. Competition is good.

Are you illiterate or delusional. Im leaning on the latter. Annandale is exceptionally cuisine and generally ethnically diverse any racial complaints and not even hidden racism is out there.
I hope they make the outside look modern and nice. Annandale needs a total rebuild of its commercial buildings to extinguish its reputation as old and rundown .

I’m saying most of Annandale has Asian food. Why can’t we get like a T.G.I Friday’s, Shake Shack,The Broiler, Mexican restaurants? Or even a Walmart.
Glory Days opened up recently… Silverados fits in that same vein too. I do think we need more healthy fast casual options. Mosaic is not far though and has plenty, so it’s not like you have to drive that far to get it.
Aside from the fact that most of what you mentioned are franchises, I like the idea of diversity. I’d like to see more non-franchise restaurants of different types. Persian, Pilipino, Balkan, Eastern European, etc… are different, and it would be nice to have even more cultural diversity than we already have. Walmart is evil.
Variety in Annandale? There is so little except for:
Korean: yes, there are many Korean spots, but many of the specialize in one or two types of dishes, making it more varied than one might think
Latin American: we have Mexican, Peruvian, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran, and Bolivian right here, great taco spots, etc.
Persian/Middle Eastern – Moby Dick, Bread and Kabob (Bailey’s), Kabobistan (Bradlick)
Pilipino – there is a new restaurant at Bradlick that is great, plus there is the new Jolibee.
Laotian – Padang at 7 Corners is unbelievably good.
Balkan – Not many in DMV that I can think of.
Eastern European (do you mean Polish or Hungarian?) Very little of these in this area, and Annandale wouldn’t be where they start.
German – German Gourmet on Columbia Pike isn’t a sit-down but draws folks from all over the area.
Swiss – Swiss Bakery at Ravensworth has lots of Swiss stuff.
Vietnamese – about 8 pho places and a new vegetarian spot at Barcroft under development, plus others.
Indian – Indaroma is one of the highest rated spots in the area at Pinecrest
Thai – East Gate Shopping Center
Ethiopian – one of the highest concentrations of good Ethiopian in the DMV
American – Silverado, Foxfire, Jukebox, Wing Stop, Firehouse, fast food, pizza joints, Jersey Mike’s, Kilroys, Great American chain beyond Silverado
Japanese – Yamazato, Tanpopo, Akeno, at least two others, plus Ariake just over the Beltway
Street-ish markets: The Block, inside the K Market, inside Lotte Plaza at Ravensworth
All of these are within a five-minute drive of the Walgreens. If you go 15 minutes out you get Mosaic, Van Dorn Plaza, Seven Corners, Springfield – all full of interesting joints for food. And of course there are many many more –
And don’t get me started on coffee shops.
I am pretty sure Ariake lays claim to a good chunk of my paycheck. We can’t quit that place, so good!
I totally agree. If I want to go out to get a non Korean dinner, my choices are limited. I basically have Silverado. Its always busy. The Juke Box Diner isn’t too good. Glory Days is average. We really need more choices. Way too many Korean restaurants. Nothing to do with racism…just about more food choices. Would love to see Italian, soul food, or good seafood restaurant in Annandale.

There are about 20 Korean restaurants in Annandale. I think if there were 20 Italian restaurants in Annandale and another one was opening, the response might be the same. It’s not about race, for goodness sake. It’s about diversity for the palate.

I owned a business in Annandale for over 30 years. For many of those years, the only reason Annandale wasn’t a vacant wasteland was that Korean businesses occupied many of the commercial spaces. I choose to recognize the good the Korean community has done for Annandale.
In a sea of negative and hateful comments, I’m looking forward to this new business and can’t wait to visit! We love Korean food and soju. In fact, Korean food is one of the many reasons we recently moved to Annandale, to be closer to so many wonderful Korean dining options. And whoever recommended getting rid of the Eden Center will have to do that over my dead body!
