Art on display at the Lincolnia Senior Center

By James Albright
Visitors to the Lincolnia Senior Center are invited to enjoy a special exhibition featuring artists from the Lake Barcroft Art League.
The exhibit can be viewed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m -4 p.m, through May 29, at 4710 N. Chambliss St., in Lincolnia.
The exhibit is presented by ArtsFairfax in partnership with the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.
This collaboration not only provides an opportunity for talented local artists to exhibit their artwork in a non-traditional space, but it also brings color and creative inspiration to the residents of the Lincolnian, patrons of the Lincolnia Senior Center, staff, and visitors. The Lincolnian is a county-owned assisted living facility for seniors adjacent to the senior center.
“ArtsFairfax is so delighted that we can offer an opportunity for members of the Lake Barcroft Art League to showcase their work to this new audience,” said Shannon Smith, artist and community partnerships manager for ArtsFairfax. The Lake Barcroft Art League is a community of local artists dedicated to supporting creativity and sharing visual art.

The exhibit features four artists, each working in a different style, who present unique perspectives on nature, animals, and the outdoors:
- Jan Barrett is a fiber artist who is inspired by the tactile nature of materials and the stories they carry. She uses fabric, thread, and natural fibers to explore color, form, and the dialogue between the artist’s hands and the materials.
- Chica Brunsvold, a Signature Member of both the National and American Watercolor Societies, explores her instinctive ability to perceive animals in her pre-existing work, and lets the hidden images come out in her “Zooillogicals” paintings.
- David B. Goldstein, a painter whose work appears in collections worldwide, explores the feeling of being present in a place. His water scenes highlight one of his favorite places – connecting with sea life in the ocean.
- Photographer J. Larry Golfer captures the character of people, places, and the natural world with clarity and emotional presence. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Washington National Cathedral and Washington, D.C.’s Art in Public Buildings program.
Together, their works brighten and enliven the senior center while inviting visitors to pause and maybe inspire their own creative spirit.
