Audrey Moore to close for two weeks

The Audrey Moore Rec Center in Annandale will be closed Aug. 27-Sept. 9 for “pressing facility maintenance needs,” the Fairfax County Park Authority announced.

During the closure, crews will take care of the annual whitecoat maintenance for the swimming pool.

According to the Park Authority, “The shutdown is required for the safety of patrons who might otherwise be exposed to paint and other chemical smells and ensures continued progress without delay.”

Some of the work planned during the lengthy closure includes the following:

  • Carpet replacement on the second level.
  • Drywall repair, painting, and lighting upgrades on the main hallway.
  • Remodeling the family changing room.
  • Door replacement at the pool entrance.
  • LED lighting upgrades in locker rooms and hallways.
  • Flooring repairs on the basketball court.
  • Remodeling the pottery studio.
  • Ceiling and lighting upgrades in the fitness center.
  • Tables and chairs, tiles, HVAC ceiling vents, picnic tables, and chrome fixtures will be cleaned.

Audrey Moore, the oldest recreation center in Fairfax County, is in line to get a total makeover – or be demolished and replaced. There is no timeline yet for that project.
