Bennett-Parker wins Democratic firehouse primary

Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker won a firehouse primary held by the Alexandria Democrats on Jan. 13 to succeed Virginia Sen. Adam Ebbin.
Bennett-Parker got 70.6 percent of the vote. Former delegate Mark Levine came in second with 17.4 percent.
She will face Republican candidate Julie Robben Lineberry in a special election for the 39th Senate District on Feb. 10.

The heavily Democratic 39thDistrict includes parts of Seven Corners and Bailey’s Crossroads, as well as the City of Alexandria and Crystal City and Pentagon City in Arlington County.
Bennett-Parker has served in the House of Delegates since 2022. She is vice chair of the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee and chairs one of the two Finance subcommittees. She previously served as vice mayor of Alexandria.
Lineberry is a realtor with McEnearney Associates in Old Town, Alexandria, and is a former member of the Alexandria Electoral Board.
The 39th District seat became vacant after Gov.-Elect Abigail Spanberger appointed Ebbin as senior advisor at Virginia’s Cannabis Control Authority.
In thanking voters following the Democratic caucus results, Bennett-Parker wrote on Facebook, “I am looking forward to working on our shared priorities: lowering costs for families, funding our schools, standing up for our rights against Trump and MAGA extremists, protecting our communities from gun violence, and preserving access to our healthcare choices.”
