Bone soup restaurant coming to Annandale

The future home of ShinChon Sullungtang.

A new restaurant coming to central Annandale will specialize in beef bone soup that was boiled all day.

The ShinChon Sullungtang Korean Bone Soup restaurant is located at 7131-B Little River Turnpike, although the entrance is on John Marr Drive. It is expected to have a soft opening in mid-February and a grand opening by March 31.

The new restaurant is in the same building as Wow Fresh Meat Market, 9292 Shabu, and Café V.

“Although the Koreans have perfected making the best milky white beef bone soup with plenty of collagen melted in the soup for your health, beef bone soup has been a part of every food culture of humankind,” says the owner of the building, Steve Lee. Lee is running in the Democratic Primary to represent Mason District on the Board of Supervisors.

“Anyone can prepare beef bone soup at home but it takes too much time and it’s hard to get it perfect,” Lee says. “If you can find a store that will serve a truly well-prepared bone soup, go for it! It’s very healthy and hearty.”

  1. We were driving by in Annandale and noticed this new place. We weren’t even hungry but as foodies we were curious. Although their soft opening is tomorrow, they fed us their sullungtang and let me tell you how delicious it was. Nothing tastes better than time with good ingredients and that is exactly what their broth is. The meat is so tender and flavorful, the radish kimchi is incredibly delicious(I am very picky with my kimchi), and every little part that goes into the sullungtang is so good. The green onions are the large ones traditionally used in Korean cooking which also just holds more flavor. They have this incredible meat dipping sauce that is so unique but really really good(doesn’t come with it you have to kindly ask for it as it is originally made for another dish). I also enjoyed talking to the owner and staff – I can definitely appreciate their business approach and love for food. They are going to slowly incorporate more related dishes as they are perfected and I can’t wait to come back.
Fun fact: they are pretty big in Korea with around 60restaurants and this is their first location in the states. They know what their doing and they certainly know their sullungtang.
