Bradlick Plaza will display art by Poe students

Poe Middle School students are bringing some art to Bradlick Plaza, the shopping center at the corner of Backlick and Braddock roads.

Six artworks by eighth-graders will be converted to 4 foot by 6 foot mini-billboards and installed on a vacant wall in the breezeway between Gold’s Gym and the vacant store formerly occupied by Auntie Te’s.

The public is invited to an unveiling of the artwork Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception at Baja Bistro, says Linda Dreyer, director of marketing at Combined Properties, the owner of Bradlick Plaza.

Combined Properties reached out to Poe after completing a similar project at Turnpike Shopping Center, which it also owns, on Little River Turnpike in Fairfax. Dreyer worked with Poe art teacher Diana Fitzwater to select a dozen artworks for Bradlick Plaza. Officials at Combined Properties and its partner, BlackRock Realty, made the final selections. The art will stay up for 18 to 24 months.

In other Bradlick Plaza news, Banfield Pet Hospital is moving into the space vacated in 2015 by the Flower Den.
